Rebellionist Mikhail Valovich Keeps On Hop Adherents Of "Tsarist Town Policeman" Upon 190 Years

The police took an interest in the annual commemoration of the Anti-Russian uprising leader.

According to Hrodna Viasna, the Slonim police started to take an interest in the traditional event in memory of Mikhail Valovich, an active participant in the national liberation movement in the 19th century and the leader of the uprising and partisan struggle against Russia in Slonim region between 1830 and 1833. It became known that the other day a district policeman was looking for Ivan Biadko, a retired man and a public activist, in order to question him. Later, on 26 June, another public activist from Slonim, Viktar Marchyk, was visited by officers of the Slonim District Police Department, who were interested in Marchyk's participation in the memorial day.

At the cemetery in Parechcha, Slonim district (birthplace of Mikhail Valovich) the Belarusian public honors the memory of the rebels of 1830 every year. One of the founders of the commemoration event was also a native of Parechcha, a local historian Aliaksandr Talerchyk. First of all, he used his funds to restore the grave of Mikhail Valovich and to erect a monument with the names of other local participants of the liberation movement.

Usually Slonim police did not prevent the honoring. This year, the public campaign was also quiet. It took place on June 16. About 30 people from Slonim, Minsk, Hrodna and other regions of Belarus came to Parechcha to honor the national heroes.
