Elites Decided to "Surrender" the Usurper
Abbas Gallyamov

A lesson for repressive regimes.

The anniversary of the fall of the Ceausescu regime was recently celebrated. It's a cautionary tale. It will be especially useful for Lukashenka and his entourage to recall those events. In their place, I would draw attention to the following circumstances.

First, it was the most repressive regime in Eastern Europe, and it was its creator who was the only head of state to be executed. It turned out that political violence is, in fact, a double-edged weapon.

The second lesson is that it was not the rebels who executed the dictator, but yesterday's comrades-in-arms who quickly defected to their side. Having realized that the "Genius of the Carpathians" got the people so bad that getting rid of him was easier than defending him, they organized a hasty tribunal and shot their former patron the same day.

Lukashenka's entourage would be interested in knowing that with the help of this simple trick, Romania's ruling elite managed to retain power in the country. Not all of it succeeded, of course. Some lost their positions, and others were even put on trial. But in general, the operation to change shoes was successful. As the former leader of the Romanian Komsomol, Iliescu, who has become the new head of state, explained: "The people did not rebel against communism, they rebelled against Ceausescu." A good example of how to organize your own political survival.

I think these lessons could be interesting not only for Belarusians but also for representatives of other repressive regimes.
