According to the results of January-November 2020, the number of persons who undergo technical inspection and pay state duty for admission to participate in the traffic (road tax), decreased by 36.8% compared to the same period last year, the naviny.by website writes.

According to Beltechahliad, the trend "in the number of vehicles submitted to diagnostic stations to pass state technical inspection and obtain permission to participate in the traffic" persists in the country.

For the first 11 months of this year, almost 674.6 thousand such permits have been issued, which is 36.8% less than in January-November 2019 (1 million 66.6 thousand), Beltechahliad stresses.

Ministry of Finance of Belarus released the data in November this year, which shows that the income of the road fund (part of the national budget) from the payment of road tax by car owners (state duty for the admission of vehicles to participate in the traffic) decreased by 28.2% in January-September compared to the same period last year.

The tendency for the reduction of the number of vehicles undergoing technical inspection has been observed in Belarus since 2015.

We remind that since 2014, the passing of technical inspection is tied to the payment of road tax by car owners, the revenues from this tax were transferred to the budget for partial financing of road infrastructure by the population.

The mechanism of paying the tax is criticized by the population, because the size of the fee (about 200 rubles on average) does not take into account the duration of vehicle operation. For this reason, the authorities have been considering alternative options for collecting road tax for the last two years, but no final decision on this issue has been made.
