Andrei Voinich: The "Golden" Flagpole Made on the Quiet not to Disturb the People

Independent blogger and activist of the European Belarus civil campaign Andrei Voinich wrote about it on Facebook:

"While doctors and teachers speculate on where to get money for essentials after the latest innovations, the authorities have decided to waste people's money once again. This time the toilet in Homel for $1 million wasn't enough for them. Officials decided to encourage patriotism by building a flagpole worth $656.000 (1,459,797 BYN). The sum is not final. As a rule, it will cost more during the construction process.

The flagpole is being made on the quiet not to disturb the people. People know how to count. They will be able to share one and a half million rubles between state employees who have already been short of their salaries in January.

One cannot put this "golden" flagpole on bread. Esuriency will not disappear when looking at Lukashenka's pieces of arts. No money is added to the pocket either. The longer we tolerate it, the more they will steal from us. The more meaningless waste they will erect at our expense. The more foreign cars and palaces officials build. Do we need it? How long do we wait and tolerate?"
