Three Steps Towards Free Belarus

The new time is already at the door.

Nowadays, our Belarus is perhaps at the most important moment in modern history. Together we can return the country to the people of Belarus, to a normal life without fear and humiliation, in freedom and mutual respect. I am convinced that this is what every citizen of Belarus, even the one who is serving the illegal authorities today, wants.

Not only can we get our Belarus back, but we are obliged to do so. Today, the criminals in power have neither support nor trust in them. Even the law enforcers understand that the inadequate ruler guarantees them neither the former bonuses nor safety. He is bankrupt both in the country and on the international arena, where he is known as a fraud and pathological liar.

The whole country has rebelled against the three-percent nonentity. The whole country wants Lukashenka to leave. The international community joins our demands.

All Belarus is discussing today how to get rid of Lukashenka and how to proceed to a decent life. There are various ideas, both constructive and not. I am confident that we will get rid of Lukashenka very soon, so now it is important to choose the most legal, logical and consistent way to return Belarus to a free life.

According to the European Belarus civil campaign, our strategy should consist of three main steps.

- Creation of a coalition government, which would include professionals from the opposition and current officials, not involved in the crimes of the authorities. The government should ensure political and economic governance of Belarus during the transition period.

- Return to the 1994 Constitution. The strange idea of holding a referendum on the Constitution during the presidential campaign seems to have died at the start. And it is right and logical, because the only legal Constitution is the main law of 1994, and all the changes made by the present authorities are illegal.

- The early holding of presidential and parliamentary elections based on the 1994 Constitution, which contains all the necessary provisions to ensure the separation of powers.

The new time is already at our door, we should just open the doors, let it in and start living.

Long live Belarus!

Andrei Sannikov, on behalf of the European Belarus civil campaign
