Natallia Radzina: Operator A1 Becomes Accomplice to Crimes Committed By Lukashenka’s Regime
Natallia Radzina

An Austrian company turns off the Internet for Belarusians during peaceful protests.

Yesterday during a peaceful protest on Independence Square in Minsk, mobile Internet was almost completely disconnected. According to the mobile operator A1, the Internet was disconnected on demand of the authorities.

The chief editor of Charter97.org Natallia Radzina commented on the situation:

"I found out that operator A1 disconnects the Internet during peaceful protests with the wording "to ensure national security on demand of the authorities".

They are accomplices to the crimes committed by the Lukashenka regime today. It regards not only censorship but also arrests, beatings and killings of people in squares where they disconnect the Internet and communication.

Besides, it is an Austrian company. That is, it is subject to EU regulations.

This is just a business for the organization. It does not care who uses it or how. But I wonder if there are EU regulations in this regard and whether it violates some norms a European company must comply with".
