Year Of Pride And Dignity

A special time has come for the Belarusians.

"My mother is a pensioner, - a reader of the Basta telegram channel writes. - She lives in Minsk, has been at previous rallies, and that's what she said today:

"I'll go, I'll go to all the protests. I understand all the risks, but I'll do it for myself to break the vicious circle. Otherwise, I just won't respect myself. Otherwise, I'll stay in my "inner Kolyma".

Now I see in many of us the traits of my parents, who are no longer alive: keep your head down, they will put you in jail, scary, let the others do it... And I am like this... And that's how I taught my children... And if I don't suppress my fear today, this Kolyma will last for generations.

And I don't want it to live that way.

I was afraid to go to the first rally, but I'm not afraid anymore. I felt so relieved, it's easier for me to breathe. This year is special for me - a year of victory over myself, a year of pride and dignity, a year when I feel that I am the first of many generations of my ancestors to raise my head, smile and go forward. For myself, for my children and grandchildren".
