Basketball Player Alena Leuchanka Detained

The sportswoman has been taken to the Leninski district police department of Minsk.

Basketball player Alena Leuchanka has been detained, Nasha Niva reports. According to the newspaper, she was taken to the Leninski district police department of Minsk. Her phone is currently off.

Tut.by journalists learned that this morning Alena Leuchanka called lawyer Mikhail Kiryliuk and said that she had been detained at the airport before her flight for scheduled treatment and rehabilitation (there are official documents) and was being taken to the Leninski district police department in connection with her participation in illegal mass events.

According to Alena, she is charged under Part 1 of Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences (Violation of the order of organizing or conducting mass events).

The police department has not yet confirmed Alena Leuchanka's presence there to the lawyer. The date and time of the trial is not known, but it should not be later than 72 hours.

Earlier Alena actively spoke out against violence in the country and in favor of holding new elections; she was also a member of the Free Association of Belarusian Sportsmen, signed the open letter to the authorities and law enforcers and constantly attended the Sunday marches.
