Lithuania is ready to take the lead in the peace-making process in Belarus.

Both Vilnius and Kiev agree that the key to stabilizing the situation in Belarus is to hold new presidential elections. The situation in our country has been discussed by Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine Gitanas Nauseda and Vladimir Zelenski in a telephone conversation, the press service of the Lithuanian president reports.

"We agreed with the Ukrainian leader that a peaceful way out of this situation would be a dialogue between the authorities and representatives of civil society about the transfer of power and the holding of new presidential elections, fair and democratic, under the supervision of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe", - the words of the President of Lithuania are quoted in the message.

Nauseda added that Lithuania is ready to take a leading role and become a mediator between protesters and the Belarusian authorities.

The press service of the Ukrainian President was more concise: "Vladimir Zelensky and Gitanas Nauseda exchanged views on the development of the situation in Belarus. The Ukrainian head of state stressed the commonality of approaches between Ukraine and the European Union in assessing the Belarusian domestic political crisis".
