Belarusians are outraged by the actions of the authorities during the fourth wave of coronavirus.

Belarusian doctors report that the fourth wave of coronavirus in Belarus turned out to be much stronger than the previous ones. More and more hospital departments are being redesigned to COVID-19. According to the latest data from doctors, "the number of beds is negative," the load reaches 105-110%. The Ministry of Health announced the termination of the planned treatment of patients.

Pulmonologist Yauhenia Barysevich stated in his Instagram account that "the whole of Belarus is burning with a red flame."

The recent "leak" from the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology only proves the seriousness of the current situation with COVID-19 in Belarus. From the documents, it became known that, on October 7, 2021, 3086 people were infected in Minsk alone. For comparison, according to official data, there were 1983 people throughout the country that day. Lawyer Harry Pahanyaila, in an interview with Charter97.org, called such actions of the authorities criminal.

In the regions, the situation is also fatal. Here is what a doctor from one of the district hospitals told our website:

- We have already given four departments for COVID-19 needs: directly infectious, then neurology, gynecology, and maternity. Therapy and surgery are still working according to their profile, but more than half of those treated there are infected with COVID-19. From the "dirty" intensive care unit bodies are taken to the morgue every day. There was a record, I think, on October 14 - six people. However, the cause of death does not include the coronavirus but other chronic pathology that the person had - diabetes, cardiovascular, neurological, and so on.

The pandemic has not changed the Belarusian health care system for the better.

Doctors are kept in constant tension, and this leads to overwork and burnout. After the protests of 2020, when many doctors had to leave the country for political reasons, there is also a severe shortage of qualified specialists. According to official data, today Belarus lacks 3,000 specialist doctors, 3,000 nurses, and 1,000 medical assistants.

There is not only an acute shortage of human resources but also equipment - mechanical ventilation, oxygen, and so on. Indeed, at the beginning of the first wave of COVID-19, volunteers and ordinary people helped doctors, providing them with protective equipment, oxygen concentrators, pulse oximeters, food, and water. Now any initiative is pursued by the authorities, which leaves the Belarusian doctors in an even worse position, in fact, they are thrown into the embrasure.

To date, only 18% of the population in Belarus is vaccinated, which puts the country almost at the bottom of the list in terms of vaccination among European countries. Many doctors urge citizens of Belarus to get vaccinated in order to protect themselves, their loved ones, as well as those around them.

And what do Belarusians say, who have to work during a pandemic and put themselves at risk of infection? The Charter97.org website quotes readers' opinions:

"We are at the front, it's time to admit it. The so-called power no longer controls anyone or anything. There is no help to anyone: neither doctors, nor individual entrepreneurs, nor pensioners, nor students. And each of us must now take care of ourselves, our loved ones, and those around us. If possible, go into self-isolation, wear masks. And yes, get vaccinated."

“I personally support the complete closure of schools for quarantine, but the parents of the first graders will come out and say that they have no one to leave their children with. Therefore, it is necessary at least to begin to close schools, starting from the fifth grade, where children may well be at home and study. All the more, the students should be sent to distance learning.

"It happens that you go to only one patient who had a positive smear in order to open self-isolation, and there five more sick relatives of his come out of the rooms... That makes me want to cry... In the first wave, we had a different situation. The doctor came to one and, when asked that everyone had symptoms in the apartment, including the child, she said: “I was summoned to one”. And this one, without any tests, smears, or an X-ray, is prescribed antibiotics (polyclinic #7 in Minsk). Only after calling the hotline of the Ministry of Health did they arrive, did the tests, though they had to listen to a bunch of nasty things after the call from the head of the department."

“My son was very seriously ill, but I, respectively, was a contactee but did not get sick, and my wife got sick. So, if previously such a sick leave was opened for 14 days, now it is only for seven days. But the main thing is not even this, but the fact that, in order to close the sick leave, 76 people gathered in a tiny corridor, and I personally had to wait more than three hours among those coughing and sneezing people. Well, can't you think of a queue with numbers and calls, as in the same banks or pharmacies?! And this is just the spread of the disease... And this is also the poor organization of health care by people like Pinevich..."

"I don’t understand one thing: why? For whom does the Ministry of Health draw these figures? The people see everything. Still, they already understand perfectly well that not 10-15 people die from covid per day but dozens of times more. With these lies, they may be trying to prove to someone that we have medicine at its best. To whom? We all see the "height" of this medicine in hour-long queues, the absence of places in hospitals, deaths of relatives and friends. There are no people left in Belarus who haven't lost a relative or a colleague or an old acquaintance to covid. Trouble has come to every home. Everyone already understands everything, but the Ministry of Health denies it."
