Belarusian Workers' Association Answers Five Questions About Strike

Are there many enterprises ready for the strike?

Leader of the Belarusian Workers' Association Siarhei Dyleuski called on Belarusians to stay at home from November 1.

The Telegram channel of the Belarusian Workers' Association (BOR) answers five main questions about the strike.

1. Where can I get leaflets and stickers about the strike for distribution?

You can download layouts of printed materials by the links: here and here.

2. Are there many enterprises ready for a strike?

At the moment, we are still receiving messages by mail about the readiness of many core groups at the factories to stay at home on the day of the strike. We adore these people, because they have been fighting since the very first days of the protest. Every Belarusian who will help in the liberation of the country is a hero. And the more of us there are, the faster we will become free.

3. How to respond to calls from the management of ordinary workers?

People may simply not pick up the phone or prepare in advance the reason for the absence: the child fell ill, the sense of smell disappeared so it’s necessary to go to the doctor, take a sick leave or vacation. Everyone can have their own reasons.

4. Why are you so confident in success?

We have been working on the strike agenda for many months. The topic of the strike was covered by many channels, including Realnaya Belarus, NEXTA, Basta!, Bolkunets, Malanka, Charter’97, Mustache Lukashenka and many others.

Today many world media write about it. Opposition leaders, sports stars, journalists, doctors and public figures such as Valer Tsapkala, Pavel Latushka, Andrei Sannikov, Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, Aliaksandra Herasimenia and many others spoke out in support of the demands of the Belarusian workers. You can sign the petition here.

5. Why leave people at home? Isn’t it better to encourage them to take to the streets where they can feel the unity?

The experience of taking to the streets has already shown that it is unsafe. In addition, today the problem with the coronavirus has worsened more than ever. According to doctors, every day from 200 to 300 people die in the country. Enterprises inform us that welders do not have oxygen, as all of it goes to hospitals. And even that is not enough. We and our relatives are in danger, and therefore it is not worth setting up an epicenter for the infection for everyone and everything. Better to take care of yourself and go on strike at home, in a comfortable and safe environment.
