Vilnius urged the Belarusian regime not to launch the second power unit of the station.

On November 23, a representative of the Belarusian Embassy in Lithuania was handed a note of protest in connection with Minsk's plans to physically launch the second power unit of the BelNPP by the end of 2021, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry reports.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry stressed that the launch of the second power unit would double the threats to nuclear safety and the environment for Lithuania and other countries in the region. Vilnius calls on the Belarusian side to refrain from this irresponsible decision, as well as to suspend the operation of the first power unit until all safety requirements are met.

Lithuania declares that it will use all available diplomatic, political, legal, and technical measures to protect the well-being of its people and protect national security interests.
