Iraq Taken Out More Than 600 Migrants From Belarus

Two planes flew to Erbil last night.

Last week, more than 400 Iraqi Kurds repatriated to Iraq, reports dw.com.

In total, Iraq has already removed more than 600 migrants from Belarus. On the night of Friday, November 26th two planes of the Iraqi Airways company flew from Minsk to the Iraqi city of Erbil with a total of 617 migrants on board, informed a representative of the Foreign Ministry of Iraq.

Iraqi Consul to Russia and Belarus Majid al-Kilani stated the day before that several more evacuation flights were planned. According to him, over 1000 migrants have expressed a desire to return home from Belarus voluntarily. Last week, more than 430 migrants, mostly Iraqi Kurds, were already evacuated from Minsk by Iraqi Airways. After an intermediate stop in Erbil, they were taken to Baghdad.

About 2,000 migrants intending to go to Western Europe via Poland remain on the Belarusian-Polish border. Polish border guards report hundreds of attempts to cross the border illegally every day. The European Union accuses Belarusian ruler Aliaksandr Lukashenka of deliberately provoking a migration crisis on the EU's external border in revenge for the sanctions Brussels imposed on his regime.
