MAZ Banned From Participating In Dakar Rally-Marathon

The team has disappeared from the list of participants.

The MAZ-SPORTavto team disappeared from the list of Dakar - 2022 participants, reports the Championat portal.

Earlier MAZ submitted three crews for Dakar - 2022, which will take place in January: 502 - Siarhei Viazovich, Pavel Haranin, Anton Zaparoshchanka; 507 - Aliaksei Vishneuski, Maksim Novikau, Siarhei Sachuk; 517 - Aliaksandr Vasileuski, Aliaksandr Shved, Vital Muryleu. However, a few days ago, the riders disappeared from the list of participants. Representatives of the Belarusian team have not yet made an official comment.

The Russian Match TV channel, citing its sources, reported that the trucks were heading to Marseille to load the ferry, which was to go to Saudi Arabia with racing equipment in a few days, but the team was not allowed.

Another source of the publication assumed that such a decision could be related to the sanctions against the plant.

We remind that in summer the EU imposed sanctions on a number of individuals and entities in Belarus. In particular, the prohibitive measures applied to the Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ). The MAZ-Sportavto is the factory team. Sanctions deprived the company of supplies of Western engines, which were used in the model range.

Dakar will be held in Saudi Arabia on January 2-14. The MAZ-SPORTavto team has been competing without interruption since 2012. The team won the second place in 2018 and was the third in 2020.
