Conversation Between Biden And Putin Raised Touched Upon Issue Of Belarus

Washington insists on continuing discussions with Moscow.

During the talks between U.S. and Russian presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin, the situation in Belarus was discussed as well.

Spokesperson of the U.S. State Department Victoria Nuland informs about this, reports TASS.

"In a broader sense, President Biden still believes that a more stable and predictable relationship between the U.S. and Russia is in the interests of both countries," said Nuland. "We will still have serious disagreements with the Kremlin on human rights, the treatment of Navalny, press freedom and NGOs, Belarus, cyber threats, election interference, the detention of American citizens, embassy personnel and on many other issues. President Biden has raised and will continue to raise all of these issues with President Putin".

The talks between Biden and Putin took place on December 7. These were the first talks since June in which one of the key topics was a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The meeting was held via video link and lasted about two hours. The talks were held behind closed doors and journalists were allowed to see only the beginning of the talks.
