Mikalai Statkevich To Belarusians: Hold On, Not Long To Wait

Mikalai Statkevich To Belarusians: Hold On, Not Long To Wait
Mikalai Statkevich

One shouldn't think that by some concessions the government will be able to cancel the sanctions.

One of the leaders of the Belarusian opposition, Mikalai Statkevich, has been illegally detained for 280 days. The politician's wife, Maryna Adamovich, publishes his letter from behind bars:

- No doubt, I follow all these "judicial" trials. It is obvious that the authorities are trying to prevent the mass spring protests by all means. The primary means is fear. Hence these inadequate charges, with heavy sentences.

However, the imprisonment of the girls-journalists for performing their duties causes a wave of emotional reactions not only in Belarus, but outside its borders as well.

The "real-politicians" will not be able to resist this wave, so we must expect another round of sanctions soon. And we should not think that by some kind of concessions the government will then be able to cancel those sanctions, as it was in 2015.

In the best case for the government, it may be possible to postpone the next stages of sanctions.

Greetings and support to all those arrested for freedom. Let them hold on - it's not long to wait.
