Belarus Ceased Purchase of Oil from Azerbaijan

Minsk used to buy oil from Baku in 2020.

Azerbaijan supplied 360.1 thousand tons of oil to Belarus in the first quarter of 2021. Deputy head of the Department of Events Organization and Public Relations of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan SOCAR, Ibrahim Ahmedov, announced such a figure. According to him, four oil tankers were sent for Belarus in the first quarter. "Two tankers were shipped from the Turkish port of Ceyhan, two more - from the Georgian port of Supsa," oilcapital.ru reports.

He specified that Azerbaijan didn't supply oil to Belarus in April, "and there were no requests soon.

Belarus signed a contract with Azerbaijan to supply about 1 million tons of oil in 2021. SOCAR delivered about 720 thousand tons of oil to Belneftekhim in 2020.

Belarus began to purchase oil from Azerbaijan in 2020 when another conflict with Russian suppliers began. Alternative oil supplies to Belarus came from Norway, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, and the United States.
