European Court Of Human Rights Banned Extradition Of Fighter Aliaksei Kudzin To Belarus
ALIAKSEI KUDZIN

The campaign in defense of the Belarusian athlete is giving results.

The European Court of Human Rights has banned the extradition of the fighter Aliaksei Kudzin to Belarus.

"Today, just before the meeting, it became known that the European Court agreed with the arguments on the persecution and the possibility of torture against Aliaksei Kudzin. We were presented with the Rule 39, according to which there is a ban on extradition, which means that Aliaksei is to stay in Russia until the final decision is made by the European Court.

The first session did not take place because the Internet did not work and Aliaksei could not take part in it. We are waiting for everything to work again. The next meeting is scheduled for 14:00," commented lawyer of the Civil Assistance committee Maria Krasava, reports the Belarusian Foundation for Sports Solidarity.

We remind that Aliaksei Kudzin was detained in Russia on January 21. The Belarusian authorities illegally accused him of participating in a peaceful protest. The athlete faces up to five years in jail.

In January, the Sports Solidarity Foundation sent a letter in defense of Kudzin to the State Duma, the Prosecutor's Office and the Russian Olympic Committee! The appeal was signed by more than 330 titled and honoured sportsmen.

Human rights activists of Civil Assistance Foundation and Moscow Helsinki Committee also spoke in defense of Aliaksei Kudzin, and we are extremely grateful to them for legal and professional help!
