The prize is presented in October in Leipzig.

Belsat journalists Katsiaryna Andreeva and Darja Chultsova were awarded the Leipzig Prize for Freedom and the Future of the Media. Katsiaryna Andreeva and Darja Chultsova were awarded for “becoming the voices of free journalistic reporting under the autocratic regime and suffering for their work,” Deutsche Welle reports.

The Press Freedom Center demanded the release of Andreeva and Chultsova, who received 2 years in prison in February for reporting live from a protest action.

The prize is presented in October in Leipzig, each of the journalists was awarded 10 thousand euros. How the prize will be awarded this year is not yet clear.
