The dictator has completely lost his support.

Exactly one year ago, presidential elections were held in Belarus, from which the largest protest in the modern history of the country began.

On the anniversary of the events, political analyst Dzmitry Balkunets told lenta.ru why Lukashenka's regime is doomed:

- I would assess this year as a crisis year for the authorities. Lukashenka and his entourage tried to put out the fires, but they have not been put out yet.

Has the opposition achieved anything? Certainly. There has never been such a breakthrough in the Belarusian history. Never before has a political crisis lasted so long, usually it would take several months. It is obvious to me that in the current situation Lukashenka has no chance to stand his ground, he can only postpone his leaving and it is obvious to everyone - to Russia, to China and to Europe - that Lukashenka's time is over and that everyone is counting down. He is in isolation, and there is an understanding that he will be replaced by people of a completely new formation.

Moreover, he has lost his support. During the last 20 years, Lukashenka was holding on due to the people who worked at the state enterprises, where there was always a surplus of employees. People would come to work, do nothing, get paid, and they weren't fired. And Lukashenka was always saying that if some "Westerners" and "marketeers" came in, they would be laid off and they wouldn't get a job anywhere. But at some point, this scheme stopped working, the population's incomes haven't been growing for 15 years.

A lot of pensioners, the same age as Lukashenka, participated in the protests of last year. They have been watching him for 27 years, as long as he has been in power. Their lives have passed along with him, and they have not received anything of what he promised when he came to power in 1994.
