Rear Admiral Dennis Wallace stated that his soldiers were “ready for any mission”.
The crew of the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN-77) aircraft carrier said they are ready to enter battle with Russia if ordered, but their mission is to contain threats and prevent escalation. They reported this on October 26 to Sky News.
Carrier Strike Group Commander Rear Admiral Dennis Wallace told Sky News his message to Russia is that his soldiers are “ready for any mission”.
“We want peace, everyone wants it. We want the war [in Ukraine] to end, for stability to return to the region, and we want a peaceful and stable Europe, but we are ready,” he said.
The rear admiral also noted that at least two Russian warships observed NATO actions “from a safe distance”.
The US aircraft carrier is now in southern European waters, taking part in a relatively new series of NATO exercises called Neptune. The new exercises, unlike the more predictable annual ones, Sky News reports, allow the allies to act “faster, more flexibly and more dynamically in testing the capabilities of their sea, air and ground forces” — this is done in order to improve their ability to deter Russia.
