Belarusian Schools Lose Almost One-Fifth Of Teachers In Last Decade

Along with the number of teachers the number of educational institutions is decreasing.

From 2010 to 2021, the school system lost more than 25.4 thousand teachers. Last school year, their number decreased by 4.6 thousand, compared to 2020/2021, follows from the official data of Belstat, reports Zerkalo.

Last school year, there were 106.7 thousand teachers in secondary schools in Belarus. Subject teachers account for 67 thousand of them.

On average, the Belarusian school teacher is as follows: a woman, a specialist of the highest category with a higher education, who has been working in the education system for more than 15 years, as follows from the data of Belstat.

Along with the number of teachers, the number of educational institutions in Belarus is decreasing. From 2011 to 2021 the number of schools in Belarus decreased by 695, while this year it has been reduced by 66 more. The number of vocational schools and universities has decreased by 57 for a decade, while the number of institutions of higher education - by 5. During the same time the number of specialized secondary educational institutions has increased by one.
