Ukrainian Army Break Through Defense Of 'Elite' Russian Troops In Donetsk And Kherson Regions

The units of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division and the 76th Airborne Assault Division of the enemy were defeated.

The army of Ukraine has achieved significant gains in battles with Russian troops in the Lyman region of the Donetsk region and in the Kherson region. In both directions the enemy defenses were broken. Moreover, Russian invaders are stationed at these points, who were called the elite of the RF Armed Forces even before the war. However, in the course of hostilities, they degraded. This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The ISW summary states that geolocation footage confirms claims from Russia, according to which the Ukrainian Armed Forces are still advancing east of Lyman and may have broken through the administrative border of the Luhansk region in the direction of Kreminna. The occupiers suffer losses.

As experts pointed out, the groupings of Russian troops in the north of the Kherson region and on the Lyman front initially consisted mostly of units that were called "elite" before the war.

In particular, this refers to part of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th combined arms army, which left Lyman for rear positions in the Kreminna area, and the 76th Guards Air Assault Division in the occupied Kherson region.

Experts focused on the fact that both divisions were previously considered the "elite" of the Russian troops. Obviously, they are not capable of holding territories in the face of major counter-offensives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This confirms the previous assessment, according to which even the most trained Russian troops degrade in the war against Ukraine.

"This phenomenon was also noticeable in the defeat of the 4th Panzer Division of the 1st Guards Tank Army at the beginning of the Kharkiv counteroffensive," the Institute for the Study of War emphasized.
