Alexandra Gerasimenya: Anna Guskova's Success Is a Medal for a Free Belarus

Now we are rooting for Anna Sola.

In an exclusive interview with Belsat, the head of the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Foundation Alexandra Gerasimenya says she closely watched the performance of Anna Guskova and was very happy when she managed to land.

"I saw Anna's jump and was certainly worried about her. Everybody in our team was very happy. It is such a symbolic victory for all the true Belarusians because many were sincerely rooting for Anya and I am sure that she felt the support of free Belarus. You should agree that everything happens for a reason. So this medal was necessary not only for her but for all the Belarusians.

- Guskova was congratulated by both Lukashenka. But how do they and all those who signed up for violence and lawlessness and harassed Nikolai Kozeko and Aleksandra Romanovskaya feel about the success of the one who did not support the official results of the presidential election and no longer wants to live in the past?

- I think they will find a way to stick to this medal and twist everything to persuade one that this silver medal, was won only because of one key person who taught, instructed and told us how to do things right. He is the only one we should be grateful to. If we get a medal, it's the only way to justify it. I am very sincerely happy for Anya. I have always been rooting for the freestyle athletes. My sincere greetings to Nikolai Kozeko. I know that it is his hard work. He lent not only his mind but also experience and soul to it! This award belongs to a man who stands by his principles, his country and his people.

- Now we are all rooting for another Anya - Anna Sola.

- I, like all athletes, cannot predict. We can only guess, but God knows best who should win a medal. However, I believed and still believe that the girls can do it. Anya proved with her fourth place in the pursuit, starting from the 26th position, that she can. If something went wrong at the beginning, it doesn't mean that it will stay like that during the whole Olympics. All the goodness and light that Anya Sola brings can manifest itself in the very last race, in the very last meters, seconds. And I'm sure that the strength of our support will help her to show her best.
