Сompressor Plant On Strike In Russia

The workers did not receive part of their wages for April and May.

The Ural Compressor Plant in Russia owed wages to its workers because of the war. The workers went on strike, and the factory director said that “no one cared about wages during the Great Patriotic War”.

The workers, according to the EAN news publisher, did not receive part of their wages for April and May. The plant CEO Denis Tasakov said that problems with payments arose due to the sanctions that were imposed against Russia because of the invasion of 'Ukraine, you know'.

"Many of our partners have fallen under sanctions, their money is stuck in sanctioned banks on special accounts. Some had export contracts and they can not receive their money, also the exchange rate practically causes a loss for everyone. Accordingly, these enterprises do not pay us. We are small and were the last in this chain."

According to Tasakov, the governor of the Sverdlovsk region Yevgeny Kuyvashev, deputies and federal authorities are involved in solving the problem. Today, workers should receive part of the money for April. Those who did not participate in the strike will receive the full amount. The plant CEO is not going to apologize for delays in wages:

"I would like people to change their minds. I don’t want to apologize to anyone, because everyone should understand the situation. Nobody asked about the wages during the Great Patriotic War, besides, we have a defence order, and the fulfilment of the order is now under threat. People are dying [we are talking about the participants of the special operation - ed. by the EAN], and this seems to me more important. Everybody is so smart now, and we have strikes! Although 50 people out of 370 people in the team do not go to work."
