Minsk Airport Switches To Four-Day Work Schedule Because Of Sanctions

Belarusian aviation is experiencing difficulties with the supply of equipment.

The staff of Minsk National Airport had to switch to a four-day work week because of the sanctions. This was stated by Director General of the airport Viachaslau Kharaneka.

He says that the Belarusian aviation is experiencing difficulties with the supply of new technological equipment and maintenance of the existing one. There are also issues with foreign software.

Alternatives have been searched for since the beginning of 2022. "As for import substitution, we are actively working with Belarusian manufacturers. For example, we are negotiating with the domestic manufacturer of chemical agents, batteries, lighting devices and so on," Kharaneka shared the details.

The director general explained the switch to a four-day workweek and downtime of the shift personnel by the economic situation.

Belarusian airlines lost the opportunity to fly to the airports of the EU and to overfly the territory of the European Union after the incident with the RyanAir plane. European carriers also started avoiding the airspace of Belarus. In addition, Belavia was forced to return some of its planes to leasing companies and reduce its fleet to 15 aircraft.
