Lukashists To Go To 'DPR' To Try Captured Azov Fighters

Representatives from Russia and Syria have also been invited to the illegal "tribunal".

Russia, Belarus and Syria intend to send representatives to attend an international tribunal for the Ukrainian POWs accused of war crimes in the self-proclaimed DPR. Elena Shishkina, the head of the committee for criminal and administrative legislation of the people's council of the self-proclaimed "DPR," told RIA Novosti about this, zerkalo.io reports.

According to Shishkina, many countries are expected to participate in the tribunal, but so far only three have agreed to send their representatives: Russia, Belarus and Syria.

Earlier, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people's republic, Denys Pushylin, said that the trial of the captured fighters of the Azov regiment might be held before the end of the summer.

It became known about the tribunal in the self-proclaimed Donetsk people's republic after the international criminal court in The Hague announced its intention to present the first case of Russian war crimes in Ukraine for consideration this winter. This was reported by Bloomberg.

A joint investigation team comprising several European judicial bodies was set up in March to gather evidence of Russian crimes in Ukraine. The office of the international criminal court prosecutor is part of the investigation team, whose work is supported by the European Union's criminal justice cooperation agency, Eurojust.
