The European Belarus activist continues to fight even there, regardless of anything.
For more than a month, the relatives of the political prisoner and activist of the European Belarus civil campaign Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk did not know where she was. Today, the husband of the political prisoner Andrei Sharenda told Charter97.org that she had been transferred to the penal colony #24, which is located in the village of Zarechcha, in the Rechytsa district, Homel region.
It also became known that at a time when there was no contact with her, Palina was placed in a punishment cell for 20 days. Andrei Sharenda believes that this is the revenge of the Lukashists for the principled position of the European Belarus activist:
“It turned out that Palina wrote several letters, and they were simply blocked. Such an atmosphere was specially created in order to put pressure on her, and secondly, to put pressure on her relatives and friends.
Today the lawyer got through and it became known that Palina is in colony #24, which is located in the Rechytsa district. What is known about this colony? This is a colony for recidivist women who have repeatedly committed a particularly serious crime. This colony is located between Rechytsa and Svetlahorsk. In fact, this is a camp in the forest, a closed zone. There is no cell phone communication there.
They are in jail for murder and distribution of drugs. It’s really lawless to send Palina there. She is not a recidivist, and has committed no crimes. Palina is a political prisoner.
This colony is also known for its tough attitude, brutal discipline, and very hard daily work. Everything there is aimed at breaking a person.
I would call it an exile, there are very harsh living conditions. After all, this is a camp in the forest with all the ensuing conditions: no hot water, a bath only once a week. For any wrongdoing, a person is deprived of a bath. There is also a garment factory that sews uniforms only for law-enforcement officials.
There will be no proper communication, no opportunity to transmit any news, it is difficult for a lawyer to get there. The date of the visit must be booked in advance.
I think that this is the revenge of the Lukashists for Palina’s principled stance. From the short letter that came from her, we can say that Palina treats her new place with humor. Even these short few sentences say that she has not broken down, and continues to fight, in no case will she put up with the situation that is happening in the country. Even in inhuman conditions, Palina will continue to fight.
