New Charges Pressed Against Andrzej Poszobut

The journalist was detained in March 2021.

New charges have been pressed against journalist-political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut. These are “calls for restrictive measures (sanctions) aimed at causing harm to national security” (Article 361 of the Criminal Code), the BAJ press service writes.

Poczobut is one of the leaders of the Union of Poles in Belarus (not recognized by the Belarusian authorities). He was detained on March 25, 2021, along with other Polish activists. Three defendants in the case agreed to leave for Poland, and they were released. In the spring of this year, Chairperson of the organization Andżelika Borys was placed under house arrest. Andrzej Poczobut remains behind bars. It was known that he was accused of “inciting hatred” (Article 130 of the Criminal Code). The case is expected to be brought to court soon.
