Here are the details.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said the terrorist group Hamas was allegedly ready to release about 200 hostages if Israel stops air strikes on the Gaza Strip. However, Hamas did not admit that it made such an offer.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said this at a news conference in Tehran, «The Times of Israel» reports.
According to him, Hamas representatives “stated that they were ready to take the necessary measures for the release of citizens and civilians held by resistance groups, but their opinion was that such measures required preparations that were impossible in the context of the daily bombing of different parts of Gaza by the Zionists.”
Hamas has said it will exchange prisoners for thousands of Palestinians held by Israel as part of unilateral exchange agreements reached in the past.
Earlier, British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said that Hamas should be blamed primarily for the deaths of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
“They hide in hospitals and schools, using women and children as human shields. The death of any civilian is a tragedy. Whether Palestinians or Israelis die, those deaths are caused by Hamas,” he said.
