Zelensky Appoints New Commander Of AFU Defence Forces

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed a new commander of the Territorial Defence Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His name is Major General Anatoly Bargilevich.

As Obozrevatel writes, the decree was published on the head of state's website on Monday 9 October. In a separate decree, the president dismissed Ihor Tantsyura from his post.

Bargilevich had been chief of staff of the eastern grouping of the AFU troops since 2022. Before that he was deputy commander of the AFU ground forces for territorial defence.

For his personal contribution to strengthening Ukraine's defence capability, courage, selflessness and high professionalism in the performance of military duty, he was awarded the Danylo Halitsky Order in 2016.
