Van der Bellen wanted to pet the dog.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu's dog bit Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen during his visit to Chisinau. This is reported by dialog.ua.
The publication released a video on which the Moldovan president's dog can be seen biting Van der Bellen's hand when he wanted to pet it. The incident occurred when the leaders were walking in the courtyard of the Moldovan president's administration building.
Sandu quickly calmed her dog and apologised to her colleague.
"There are a lot of people here," she explained this behaviour of the dog.
In a photo from Van der Bellen's subsequent talks with Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grossu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the Austrian president was already with a bandaged hand.
