The following is known about Admiral Lisa Franchetti.

Admiral  Lisa Franchetti became the first woman to lead the U.S. Navy. On November 2, the Senate voted to nominate her to serve as commander of naval operations and as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

As reported by Navy Times, Franchetti also became the first woman to serve on the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. In recent months, she has served as acting Navy commander as vice chief.

What is known about Lisa Franchetti

According to the U.S. Navy Press Service, Lisa Franchetti has served in the U.S. Navy since 1985. She was born in Rochester, New York, on April 25, 1964.

She attended Northwestern University School of Journalism (Evanston, Illinois) and received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a distinction from the Department of History. During her studies, she joined the Navy Reserve Officer Training Programme and enlisted in 1985.

Lisa Franchetti subsequently attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and earned a master's degree in organisational management from the University of Phoenix.

Franchetti commanded the U.S. Navy's Sixth Fleet covering Europe and Africa and was director of strategy, plans and policy for the U.S. Department of Defence's Joint Staff.

She is the second woman in U.S. Navy history to be promoted to the rank of four-star admiral.

She was nominated by President Joe Biden to head the U.S. Navy in July 2023.
