ISW: The Kremlin In Panic Over Putin

American analysts have revealed the Russian leader's plans.

The Kremlin fears the negative impact of the Russian occupiers' failures in the war against Ukraine on Russia's 2024 presidential "elections".

Officials will tighten censorship in the country out of "fear" that Russians who have travelled abroad will try to discredit the "election" process.

This is according to the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The ISW summary says that the Kremlin fears the impact of the failure of Russian troops in the war against Ukraine on the presidential campaign. Putin plans to base it on domestic politics and criticism of the West.

Analysts say Russian officials also want to tighten censorship in the country. They fear alleged discrediting of the 'elections' by Russians who have left the country.

The Russian Federation is due to hold presidential elections in the spring of 2024. Vladimir Putin has been head of state since 2000, with a break from 2008 to 2012 when Dmitry Medvedev led the country.

According to Reuters, Putin will seek a new 6-year term. He has not yet made an official announcement.

The Kremlin is concerned about Putin's election, according to analysts at the US-based Institute for the Study of War.

According to them, the administration fears protests from the relatives of those mobilised. The authorities are also trying to appease those who oppose Putin's military decisions.
