Media: Finland Again To Close All Border Crossings With Russia

Only freight trains have crossed the Finnish-Russian border for the last two weeks.

On Thursday, the Finnish government is going to decide once again to close all border crossings on the border with Russia.

This was reported by Helsingin Sanomat (HS), citing two independent sources in the Finnish government.

According to the article, the Finnish government will meet this evening to make a decision. The Chancellor of Justice has yet to express the opinion, but the political will to close the border is already expressed.

This decision is explained by the fact that Russia is again sending migrants to the Finnish border. According to HS, preparations for the border closure began immediately after the government decided to open the Niirala and Vaalimaa border posts two days ago.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Finnish government decided to open two checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation - Vaalimaa and Niirala - from December 14 to January 14.

Explaining why the authorities opened these two points, he said that by doing so, people who live on both sides of the border will be able to visit their relatives, at the same time, these checkpoints are most suitable for diplomatic and cargo transport.

Recall that Finland closed the last checkpoint on the border with Russia on November 30 because the Russian Federation began to facilitate the arrival of asylum seekers at the Finnish border.

For the last two weeks, only freight trains have crossed the Finnish-Russian border.
