Maduro Signs Decrees To Annex Part Of Guyana

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro signed a series of decrees on the annexation of Guyana's Essequibo region. This is a package of six documents that provide for the “annexation” of the oil-rich region to Venezuela.

The dictator has even ratified a new map of Venezuela and declared Essequibo the 24th state of the country. This was reported by the Venezuelan newspaper Ultimas Noticias.

Through his decrees, Maduro “created” a national high commission for the defense of Essequibo, the Essequibo Integrated Defense Zone with three integrated development zones. In addition, the president has already managed to form in Essequibo a division of PDVSA, the state oil and gas company of Venezuela, which has a monopoly on the production of oil and natural gas on the continental and offshore shelves of Venezuela.

It is also known that Maduro appointed Captain Alexis Rodríguez Cabello as the “Gauleiter” of Essequibo. From 2019 to 2020, he served as commander of the Venezuelan army. Rodríguez Cabello is the cousin of the deputy and first vice-president of the Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, who is considered one of the most powerful men in the government.

It is worth noting that Maduro issued the decrees based on the results of the so-called “referendum” in Venezuela. According to official data, more than 95% of those who voted supported the “annexation” of Essequibo. At the same time, electoral experts and the media report low turnout and fraud. At the same time, the Venezuelan Central Election Commission has not published the official results of the “referendum”.

It is noteworthy that more than 125 thousand people live in the Essequibo region. The Venezuelan authorities did not ask their opinion before annexing the entire region.

To date, the annexation of the region has been condemned by Great Britain, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Caribbean Community and the Organization of American States. At the same time, the United States supported Guyana, and Brazil expressed concern about the situation and stated that it did not want a war in South America. At the same time, the terrorist country Russia announced Maduro’s visit to Moscow before the end of 2023.

Earlier, there were reports of the deployment of units of the armed forces of Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil and the United States in the Essequibo region. In particular, the Americans have begun joint exercises with the Guyanese army, the Brazilians are proactively strengthening the border, and Venezuela has begun accumulating troops on the border.
