U.S. Reacts To Putin's Statement About Nuclear Weapons In Belarus

The Pentagon declared commitment to the principles of NATO's collective defense.

The United States of America reacted to the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin about his plans to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus.

According to Reuters, the U.S. has reacted "cautiously" to Putin's statement, with a senior administration official saying there were no signs Moscow planned to use its nuclear weapons. He added that Russia and Belarus had been speaking about the transfer of nuclear weapons for some time.

"We have not seen any reason to adjust our own strategic nuclear posture nor any indications Russia is preparing to use a nuclear weapon. We remain committed to the collective defense of the NATO alliance," the official said.

The Pentagon press service also stressed that the United States remains committed to the collective defense of the NATO alliance.
