The whereabouts and condition of the political prisoner is being concealed.

MAYDAY TEAM human rights activists report that ex-presidential candidate of Belarus, political prisoner Viktar Babaryka is no longer in his unit in IK-1 in Navapolatsk.

“According to unconfirmed information, Viktar Babaryka is no longer officially listed in his detachment,” human rights activists write.

They also, citing a former prisoner of IK-1 in Navapolatsk, report that before being hospitalized, Viktar Babaryka had recently been in the cell-type premises.

In the evening of April 26, information appeared that Viktar Babaryka, a prisoner of penal colony #1 in Navapolatsk, was hospitalized in the city hospital on the night of April 25 with traces of beatings and pneumothorax. On the morning of April 27, relatives of the politician managed to confirm the fact of his hospitalization in the surgical department.

On April 29, a representative of the administration of the penal colony stated that prisoner Babaryka was “alive and well” and continued to serve his sentence. However, no evidence was given to confirm these words in the power structures. On May 2, Viktar Babaryka's relatives tried to get an appointment with the leadership of the Department of Corrections (DoC) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but the reception was refused.

Since then, there has been no information regarding the whereabouts and condition of Viktar Babaryka.
