The British intelligence has outlined the consequences of the strike on the logistics of the Russian Federation.
Sabotage of facilities in occupied Crimea is an important element of the war. The peninsula retains an important psychological and logistical role.
This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence on Twitter.
A train derailed near Simferopol on May 18, blocking the only railway line to the port of Sevastopol, the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the report said. The railway administration claimed it was the result of "interference by outsiders".
According to the British intelligence, Russia will start repairing the line promptly, but the incident would disrupt the delivery of cargo and possibly weapons, such as Kalibr cruise missiles, to the Black Sea Fleet.
"Any sabotage in this sensitive area would further heighten the Kremlin's concerns about its ability to protect other key infrastructure in Crimea. The peninsula retains a vital psychological and logistical role in supporting Russia's war in Ukraine," Britain's Ministry of Defence said.
We remind you that on May 18, carriages derailed near Bakhchysaray and about 50m of the railway was damaged as a result of an explosion. The traffic of trains along the Simferopol-Sevastopol stretch has been suspended.
Andrei Yusov, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Defence Ministry's State Security Service, said that the railway in Crimea had been used to transport weapons. He did not rule out that such incidents might repeat again and again in Crimea until the peninsula is liberated.
