ILLUSTRATION

A Belarusian woman describes what summer camps for children are like now.

A Charter97.org reader from Starobin tells about her son in a summer camp:

- I am a mother of many children. My husband works abroad as a driver and he is away on a business trip in June. I also had to go to work to finish the house as soon as possible.

I was very happy when I saw the announcement that the government health camp accepts children from the age of six. And our Antosha was just six years old. And the fee is low - 220 rubles. The camp is near our town.

I had all the papers ready, paid for the camp, packed my things and took the child there. When we arrived at the camp, it was fenced off and parents with children weren't allowed in... they're not allowed in! I asked them to let me in: "You see, the child is a minor! You have to accompany him and show him around, put his things in the right place!" But the guard was adamant and said that the teachers would take care of it.

I had to agree, but the next day I decided to come and see the care. They did not let me in again and offered to meet my son... near the fence. I gave my son the mobile phone and left with mixed feelings.

In the end, everything ended predictably, says our reader:

- My Anton did not finish his term at the summer camp. He called me to complain and asked me to take him home. I went back and took him home.

Such black humour, sorry. Children's camps have become like concentration camps. The whole country has become one big concentration camp. My husband and I are wondering whether it is worth finishing the house...
