This is not the first statement by the State Secretary of the Security Council on this issue.
Belarus is thinking about abolishing the deferral of military service for students, said State Secretary of the Security Council Aliaksandr Valfovich.
According to him, when a first-year student is drafted into the armed forces, “he will serve a year instead of a year and a half, will return to the second year more mature, more prepared, and, having graduated from the institute four years later, he does not have to rack his brains — go to the armed strength or not to go.
“The “president” said: we really need to think it over, discuss it, listen to the opinions of people, students, young people, and then make an appropriate decision,” Valfovich said.
This is not the first statement by the State Secretary of the Security Council on this issue. In April, he announced that he considered it expedient to return to the practice of conscripting students into the army, as was the case in Soviet times.
Valfovich also spoke about the abolition of deferrals for “foreign” applicants. He explained that this decision is not directed against studying, for example, in the Russian Federation, “it's just that there is a need for this.”
In May, Belarus adopted an updated law on military duty and military service, according to which applicants entering foreign universities, including Russian ones, will no longer receive a deferment.
