Belarus Not Elected To UN Security Council

Slovenia will take the place of Lukashenka's regime.

The place of the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2024-2025 from the Eastern European group will be taken by Slovenia, not Belarus. This follows from the vote that took place today, June 6, at the organization's headquarters in New York.

Slovenia received 153 votes, Belarus 38. Sierra Leone, Algeria, the Republic of Korea and Guyana will also become non-permanent members to replace Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana and the United Arab Emirates.

The UN Security Council includes five permanent members (Great Britain, China, the Russian Federation, the United States and France) and 10 non-permanent members elected for a two-year term from the African, Asian, Eastern European groups of countries, the states of Latin America and the Caribbean, countries of Western Europe and others. states.

The Lukashenka regime applied for a non-permanent member post in 2007 and remained the only candidate until December 2021. In December, Ljubljana also put forward its application.
