MEPs Ask Court In The Hague To Issue Arrest Warrant For Lukashenka

The regime is responsible for the crimes committed in Ukraine.

MEPs called on the International Criminal Court to consider issuing an arrest warrant for Belarusian dictator Lukashenka. This is stated in the report on EU relations with Belarus adopted on Tuesday by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Evropeyskaya Pravda reports with a reference to the press service of the parliament.

The MEPs said that Belarus is responsible for the damage caused to Ukraine in connection with the war and the crimes committed in Ukraine, including because of the role of the Belarusian regime in the illegal export of children.

The report calls on the EU institutions and member states to take all necessary measures at the international level to make it possible to prosecute Belarusian political and military leaders responsible for crimes against humanity, and genocide.

The MEPs note that since the International Criminal Court has already issued arrest warrants for Russian President Putin and Children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova, the court should consider issuing a similar arrest warrant for Lukashenka.

MEPs believe that the EU Council should also expand the list of Belarusian and Russian persons subject to EU sanctions so that the restrictions apply to those involved in the forced deportation of Ukrainian children.
