The UN also called for the release of all Belarusian human rights defenders.

Viasna is the winner of the United Nations Human Rights Award for 2023. This year's prize went to five winners, including the Belarusian Human Rights Center. On July 20, they were named by the President of the General Assembly, Csaba Kőrösi.

The winners were selected by a special committee from more than 400 applicants. The awards ceremony will take place in December at UN Headquarters in New York.

"The commitment of the winners demonstrates the universality of human rights at a critical time," says Csaba Kőrösi. - The prize sends a clear message to human rights defenders around the world that the international community is grateful and supportive of their efforts to advance all human rights for all."

The aforementioned Special Committee calls on UN member states to release all imprisoned human rights defenders. A group of Viasna-related political prisoners are also behind bars in Belarus, including Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski.
