Britain's Intelligence: 'Wagner' Mercenaries To Join Belarus Army On NATO Borders

Details.

Units of the Belarusian army will hold exercises near the borders of NATO countries. They will be instructed by mercenaries of the Wagner group.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Twitter of the UK Defence Ministry.

As noted in the summary, the Ministry of Defence of Belarus announced on August 7 that the 6th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade (6 IGMB) would hold exercises near Hrodna in northwestern Belarus, not far from the Polish-Lithuanian border. The ministry said the exercise is designed to take into account lessons learnt by the Russian military in Ukraine.

"There is a real possibility that Belarusian troops will be joined by a small number of Wagner Group advisers as instructors," it said.

According to British intelligence, the special exercise is likely to be part of the Belarusian military's normal training cycle. The base garrison of 6 IGMB is in Hrodna, and it is unlikely that the unit is currently deployed with the auxiliary assets needed to bring it to combat readiness.

"However, Russia is almost certainly seeking to position Belarusian forces as anti-NATO," Britain's Ministry of Defence noted.

Wagner Mercenaries In Belarus

We remind, Belarus has started military exercises near the borders of Lithuania and Poland. The exercises are held at the Belarusian Hozhski firing range and in Hrodna region, which are located near the border with Poland and Lithuania and the Suvalki Gap.

Some of the Wagner mercenaries moved to Belarus after the mutiny by the group's leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in late June. Now there are more than 3.5 thousand Wagner soldiers there.

Aliaksandr Lukashenko said that the Wagner mercenaries were preparing provocations on the territory of Poland.

NATO said that they saw no direct or indirect threat from the Russian fighters in Belarus.

The United States of America continues to monitor the movement and actions of Wagner mercenaries in Belarus.
