Polish General: Belarusian Services On Border Experience Problems

Belarusian services at the border have been experiencing problems lately, after the strengthening of the Polish presence. Brigadier General Arkadiusz Mikołajczyk, Commander of the Podlasie Operational Group, stated this in an interview with РАР.

According to him, the Polish forces are focused on improving communications and control systems on the border, and increased the level of maneuverability.

“We read the situation better, draw conclusions faster and respond appropriately,” he said.

In his opinion, the situation on the Belarusian side is more nervous.

“Problems on the other side of the border have increased. We see that representatives of the services in masks are conducting reconnaissance from their territory. They are watching us,” he said.

Mikołajczyk also noted the difficulties with the transfer of migrants.

“You can see that they are under a lot of pressure, and the inability to get migrants across our border means that they have problems not only managing this operation, but also managing the people they have gathered on their side. They drive migrants to the very border, throughout its entire length,” the general added.

He reminded that last week, from the Belarusian side, persons in uniform threw stones at the Polish patrol. Lately, this has been the only case.

It should be noted that since Sunday, August 27, the activity of migrants at the border has decreased. This week, more than 70 violation attempts were recorded only once. On the rest of the days there were about 10-20 of them, for example, on Thursday, August 31, the Polish side reported 26 violators, 12 of which returned deep into Belarusian territory when they saw the patrol.

Mikołajczyk also said that the threat from the Wagner group remains, in connection with which the Polish services must be extremely vigilant and ready for any options. He stressed that the group has aviation forces, heavy weapons, including F-16 aircraft and Leopard tanks.

The Podlasie group includes employees of the 6th airborne brigade, 25-1 airborne cavalry brigade, the 17th Wielkopolska mechanized brigade and the 12th mechanized brigade.

After the appearance of the “Wagnerites” in Belarus, the Polish Ministry of Defense increased the presence of the army on the border. 4,000 military personnel perform tasks directly on the border, together with border guards and police, and 6,000 are located in the depths of Polish territory.
