The Russian MP said about "future conflicts of the Russian Federation with former Soviet countries".
Odiljon Turayev, vice-speaker of the lower house of the Uzbek parliament, commented on scandalous statements by Russian State Duma deputy Yevgeny Fedorov about the possibility of future conflicts between Russia and former Soviet republics, minval writes.
"The recent statements by Russian State Duma deputy Yevgeny Fedorov cannot be called anything but unique. The people's elected representative, positioning himself as a great expert in geopolitics, cites all sorts of "theories" not known to anyone. The republics, he says, left the Soviet Union illegally, violating some law 14/09. Apparently, Fedorov does not understand that the Constitution is above all laws. Thus, Article 72 of the Constitution of the USSR stated: "Each Union Republic retains the right to withdraw freely from the USSR."
He also noted that according to the deputy's logic, all these 32 years Russia represented by Presidents Yeltsin and Putin, the Russian parliament and government, all institutions of power have been dealing with all these republics illegally:
"That is, all these bilateral relations (equal political and diplomatic, economic, military, cultural, etc.), multilateral formats, agreements, pacts (starting with the CIS and ending with all kinds of Shanghai treaties) were illegal. In such a case, one can confidently declare to the whole world that the Russian institutions of power operating in such an illegal legal framework are illegal in their essence. Does the honourable deputy thus call for the dissolution of all institutions of power in the Russian state for their illegal relations? Maybe he is joking?" Odiljon Turayev concluded.
