Former SWAT officer Yury Harauski arrived at the court of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The photo was published by journalist Volha Klaskouskaya on her Telegram channel.
Yury Harauski will be tried under universal jurisdiction. He is accused of involvement in numerous disappearances of people.
In 2019, Harauski said he was part of a death squad and participated in the kidnapping and murder of former Interior Ministry head Yury Zakharanka, former CEC head and deputy speaker of the Supreme Soviet Viktar Hanchar and businessman Anatol Krasouski in 1999. In 2020, Yury Harauski applied for political asylum in Switzerland.
The case was initiated by the human rights organisation of Trial International, which contacted relatives of the disappeared Belarusian politicians. As a result, three lawsuits were filed with the Swiss prosecutor's office - from Yury Zakharanka's daughter Alena Zakharanka, Krasouski's daughter Valeryja Krasouskaya, as well as from Trial International and its partners.
