Gabon's Constitutional Court has sworn him in.
On Monday, General Brice Oligie Nguema became Gabon's president for a transitional period, AFP news agency reports.
He was sworn in by Gabon's Constitutional Court. Oligie Nguema said the transfer of power in the country to a civilian government would be gradual so as "not to repeat past mistakes".
On August 30, a group of Gabon's military under the command of General Oligie Nguema announced the deposition of President Ondimba, who had been in power for 14 years and was re-elected for a third term on August 26.
According to media reports, Nguema is a cousin of the country's deposed president.
The Economic Community of Central African States (ECOCAS) "condemned the use of force as a means of resolving political conflicts". France, whose colony Gabon used to be, and a number of Western states also condemned the coup.
