German President Publicly Calls Lukashenka A Dictator

On the third anniversary of the detention of Maryja Kalesnikava, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier published a message to the “Belarusian dictator Lukashenka” on his Facebook page.

The politician recalled that during the 2020 presidential campaign in Belarus, the opposition achieved amazing success.

“Shortly after the elections, she (Kalesnikava — edit.) was detained under unclear circumstances and a year later sentenced to 11 years in prison. Her health is deteriorating before our eyes. Since mid-February 2023, she has not been able to call, meet, or receive letters from her family and lawyers,” the message says.

“We are thinking about Maryja Kalesnikava and many others who are in prison in Belarus,” said Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
